Multiple Homes Ablaze Just 3 Miles From NE Philly Airport

A fireball lit up the Philly skies as a Pennsylvania plane crash caused a massive explosion, multiple casualties, and several fires in a dense neighborhood area. The plane was believed to be a Learjet 55 Medivac aircraft with several people on board, including two doctors, two pilots, a patient, and a family member.

One witness told 6ABC that the scene was “horrific.” He went on to say, “I was just driving down the street, coming to Wendy’s and I just saw a plane basically hit the building and it exploded. The sky light up and I pulled over and basically it was just real bad around here. It lit up the whole sky,” he added, comparing the experience to an earthquake.

It happened around 6:30pm, during heavy traffic on Friday evening. The plane had just taken off from the Northeast Philadelphia airport and was headed to Missouri. It reportedly had oxygen tanks onboard and its fuel tanks were full. The debri field is said to be huge, with powerlines down and buildings on fire, including the Roosevelt Mall. The electricity is being turned off in the area.

The crash occurred near Cottoman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, causing damage to nearby homes and cars. As of this time, “multiple casualties” have been reported. A citywide emergency response is underway with many emergency vehicles and crews on the scene. Emergency responders are evacuating the area, asking people to walk, not drive.
